Default SL keeps crashing

SL keeps crashing for me. Originally registered at work and it worked fine, the 3 times I have tried at home it crashes after 2 or so minutes. Does SL work through its own software or is it related to Firefox which I use at home as opposed to IE at work? Just wondering if this is the issue.

If the baove doesnt apply how do I resolve this problem?

SL isn't dependent on a browser Ricardo. When you registered at work did the client software work there?

As far as crashing:
  • Are you getting the login screen?
  • Are you successfully logging in and then crashing imediately?
  • Are you able to use the client at all?
  • Are you using the regular client or the Beta?
  • What kind of network connection do you have?
  • What processor, RAM and videocard do you have?
Let us know and I'm sure someone can help you out!

Sorry its taken me so long to reply... I couldnt get back into the forum.

At work it is fine but at home I can log-in and it works maximum for around 1 to 5 minutes before crashing. As fatr as I know I am using the regular client which has recently been updating quite a lot so Im assuming its the regular one.

Ive got a 8mb connection at home. Ram is 512 and I need to get back to you on the videocard and processor.

While it should work with 512MB Ricardo, Second Life is a resource hog. I have 2GB of RAM personally and most users I know have at least 1GB.

When Second Life crashes, do you get the "Crash Debugger" application that wants to send information to Linden Lab? Since it seems stable at work you may want to compare system specs and also other running applications between your two systems.

Hi - Picking up from this thread - I am having the same issues.

SL runs fine on my laptop - but my desktop shuts SL down after a few minutes of being logged in.

I have:

Sony viao

Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz
768 of RAM

Graphics card is NVIDIA GEforce TI 4200 (Sony)

Would be grateful if anyone had any suggestions regarding this issue.

That graphics card may be the problem.

You might want to try this driver:

for SL and gforce4
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html
Windows XP/2000
Version: 71.89
Release Date: April 14, 2005

It reportedly solved a similar problem for another ti 4200.

Hi - thanks for you response.

I installed the driver, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem.

Thanks anyway.

My Sl keeps crashing too. Every couple of seconds, very annoying.

Pent 4
2gigs of ram
2.66

Geforce Fx 5500

No clue what is up, I have upgraded graphic card. As far as I can see, everything is up to par.
