Default New User SL Crashing after log in

I am new to SL. I haven't made it past the log in. SL boots up, I see everything, and then within a few seconds, it crashes. Sometimes it waits for a few longer seconds until I touch a key, and then it crashes. I have a new HP laptop with 1.73 GHZ processer and 1014 MB of RAM. i have a Moblie Intel 945 GU/GM express video accelerator driver. (if that makes since to anyone). Any ideas as to what is causing this? I haven't yet stepped more then one or two steps into the SL world since I installed it.

My guess would be the integrated Intel graphics which I don't think are supported by Second Life. These integrated solutions often only have true 2D acceleration and despite support for DirectX, that support is both limited and not with OpenGL support required by Second Life.
